Microwave Magic-

an introduction to steam-fix dyeing producing random patterns on a scarf. Suitable for beginners and non-artists.

Iron-fix basics-

learn to use iron fix paints to work with colour, fill outlines and draw your own gutta outlines. Suitable for beginners and non-artists.

Sea textures-

use iron-fix paints to make patterns inspired by the sea and create a card. Suitable for beginners and non-artists.

The Festival is on Saturday 13th July and Sunday 14th July 2019 at South Essex College from 9:30am to 4:30pm. Here is a list of the workshops we plan to run, and we will add more detail as venue and tutor bookings are confirmed.

 

Workshops and other events

We will be running a mix of all day and half day workshops, from beginner to expert:

 

Anethia Sellars                          Fused glass fish- make a picture with glass and silk

Margaret Dunning                     Advanced surface decoration (TBC)

Melinda Berkowitz                    Making fabric- paint, décor, layer, stitch (TBC)

Sue Thomas                             Batik workshop

Susan Clare/Mary Day             Sketching local views at Leigh*, for later silk painting (TBC)

 

Essex Guild                               Beginners Iron-fix (half day)

Essex Guild                               Beginners Steam-fix (half day)

 

*involves a half-day trip by train to picturesque local fishing village Old Leigh, before converting your sketches into a silk picture.

 

We also hope to offer Indigo Dyeing and/or Eco-Dyeing, Nuno felting and/or some classes by College tutors, and some short sewing-based or craft classes. Whole day workshops will be roughly £80 and half day £40. Some may have an extra materials charge; we will add details to our website as these are confirmed and all will be available to book from mid-autumn.

 

There will also be a Gallery View reception on late Saturday afternoon with drinks and nibbles, and an optional Annual Dinner at a lovely local restaurant with a chance to wear and show off your creations!

We hope to have some suppliers at the Festival with items to buy, and the opportunity to sell some of your work, these will be confirmed later.
